As Jews we have heard the phrase “never again” our entire lives as a way to remember the trauma suffered by our ancestors and to reiterate that we can not let fascism do harm like this again. Many of us, Jewish or not, have talked about what we would’ve done to take action against fascism had we been alive during the holocaust. Sadly the time has come where we must demonstrate our opposition through action as fascism is on the rise in the U.S. as more and more concentration camps are constructed. We must join together and spread the call that we will not stand idly by as the U.S. government rips families apart to leave them in torturous conditions at the border. This call is not about the Jewish people, it is about those trapped in the camps. It is our Jewish lineage and history that has taught us to question everything, especially injustices. The suffering and trauma of our people is not for politicians to debate as a distraction, it is what must propel us forward to shout that never again means close the camps.
Join us on Friday August 2nd to help reverberate this message through the streets. We will be holding a rally at 1pm at Poets Beach Park in SW. We welcome all to join us, Jewish or not, in fighting against fascism. Never again means close the camps. Never again for all people.
We aim to draw upon the radical origins of Shabbat and resistance that are intrinsic to Shabbat to give strength and resilience to our larger community. To our Jewish community we deeply hope you will embrace this aspect of shabbat to join us in defiance of fascism that threatens us all.
If you’re an organizer, especially if you’re Jewish and/or work around immigration rights, who wants to get involved please message us as we’d love to collaborate!
