Join us at the Social Justice Action Center for a series of Know Your Rights trainings on Tuesday August 6th from 6:30-7:30. This workshop is designed to learn how we can hold ICE accountable for violating our constitutional rights.
The PDX Sanctuary Coalition is working to expand this education in order to create a safety network of allies while at the same time empowering migrants to be confident and to stand up for their rights. We must build trust between the communities and one way we can do this is by learning together. Thursday’s training will focus on filming human rights abuses - how to secure your phone before filming, what to film and when or who you should share it with - as well as other ways to document during and after a raid. We will also explore how to create neighborhood defense teams in order to respond effectively to raids and other panic situations with ICE. Because they are intertwined, there will be a basic Know Your Rights introduction included.
Aimee Sitarz will be giving the presentation. The educational materials were made available from the Immigrant Defense Project, Witness Labs, and the National Day Laborers.
Right now is a critical time for allies to step up and fight for the rights of the undocumented communities. We can prevent unjust detentions. We can prevent deportations. We can prevent the separation of families. I invite you all to attend and become a part of sanctuary in action!
